The biggest upset of the week belonged to Peters Township, who took down 74th ranked Peters Township, 29-6.
Mt. Lebanon was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in WPIAL AAAA Southeastern. The Blue Devils defeated Woodland Hills 39-36 earlier in the week.
Mt. Lebanon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tyler Roth threw for 359 and five touchdowns and Troy Apke had 273 yards receiving. On the ground Tim Briercheck chipped in 74 yards. Mike Briercheck helped Mt. Lebanon's passing attack out by catching five balls for 32 yards.
Mike Melynk's team's Roth and Apke have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Roth has thrown for 1135 yards this season, while Apke, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 27 catches for 612 yards. Pete Coughlin from Upper St. Clair leads the league in rushing with 224 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Blue Devils take on Canon-McMillan. At the moment, Mt. Lebanon is in second, while the Big Macs are in seventh.
Bethel Park moved up to 106 from 169 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL AAAA Southeastern. The Black Hawks climbed the ranks as a result of a 29-6 win over the Indians.
