The South Kingstown Rebels are taking a road trip to challenge the Barrington Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Kingstown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
South Kingstown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: St. Raphael Academy, who was ranked sixth at the time (South Kingstown was ranked 25th). The Rebels came up short against the Saints on Tuesday, falling 8-2. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Rebels couldn't push the score so high this time.
Bianca Harding made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Barrington hadn't done well against Westerly recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Eagles walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Bulldogs. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Ruby Ciummo (2025) was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Maya Etheridge (2026) was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Barrington hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in six consecutive matchups.
Barrington's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for South Kingstown, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South Kingstown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .513. However, it's not like Barrington struggles in that department as they've averaged .531. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South Kingstown came out on top in a nail-biter against Barrington in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 17-15. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
