Ansonia (Conn.) had a comfortable lead entering the fourth quarter, but used 31 fourth quarter points to seal the 59-26 victory over North Branford (Conn.).
The Chargers were up 28-6 at the half after taking the lead on a
JaiQuan McKnight touchdown pass to
Raeshaun Finney in the first quarter.
Ansonia saw its 22-point halftime lead fall to 14 entering the fourth.
Arkeel Newsome and
Andrew Matos ran for a bunch of touchdowns for the Thunderbirds. Newsome scored three touchdowns on the ground and Matos added two as well.
McKnight stood out for AHS in the win. The sophomore running back threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 12 touchdowns on the season.
Brandan Basil played well for North Branford. The senior quarterback threw four touchdowns. He has now scored 10 touchdowns on the season.
NB came in allowing just 13.8 points per game this season. The Thunderbirds struggled against the Chargers, which came in averaging 48.4 points per game.
Ansonia (15-0) faces off against North Branford in a playoff game its next time out. The Thunderbirds go into the week with a record of 12-0.
