Bethlehem extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They came up short against the Vernon Yellowjackets, falling 20-13. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yellowjackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-7 on Tuesday.
Mackenzie Saporito was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Saporito was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Abigale Brannon and Kenzie Adams did some serious damage despite the final result: Brannon went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Adams went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Bre Kimble, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Vernon, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-15. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games.
Like Bethlehem, Vernon also got a great game from a two-way player: Juliana Brizzolara. On the mound, she pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, Brizzolara posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Roche, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (four). Violet Jackson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
As of now, neither Bethlehem nor Vernon have any future games scheduled.
