El Capitan and Granite Hills are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Vaqueros will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. El Capitan will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
While El Capitan's victory against Grossmont wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vaqueros skirted past the Foothillers 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vaqueros have posted since March 18th.
Addison Higuera spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Kylee Frazier was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ciara Bernardini, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Granite Hills fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Olympian on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of Olympian by a score of 6-4. That's two games in a row now that Granite Hills has lost by exactly two runs.
Taylor Nash put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Nash wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaleigh Baugher, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Granite Hills has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13-1 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only two runs. As for El Capitan, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.
El Capitan suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Granite Hills in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Vaqueros have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
