Citrus recap Oct. 3, 2012
Julian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in Citrus. The Eagles vanquished Sherman Indian 38-8 earlier in the week.
Borrego Springs made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 14,582 from 14,649. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 42-0 victory over the Rams last week.
Jose Rocha was the best wideout in the league this week as Calvary Christian Academy topped Calvin Christian. Rocha racked up one reception for 34 yards. Louie Rodriguez helped Calvary Christian Academy's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
Justin Harrison was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 194 yards on 21 carries as the Royal Knights defeated the Crusaders. Teammate Justin Santa Maria added to the ground attack by rushing for 19 yards.
Hunter McConnell put up the best numbers through the air as Julian bested the Braves. He finished with a total of two completions for 34 yards and one touchdown. McConnell's favorite target this week was Tah Beresford, who caught one pass for 25 yards.
5-foot-11 quarterback McConnell of Tim White's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 553. He has also thrown five touchdowns. On the ground, Calvary Christian Academy's Harrison has rushed for 939 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Rodriguez. The Calvary Christian Academy star has 11 catches for 309 yards.
Gene Rheam's team's Harrison needs only 61 yards against Holtville next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when San Pasqual Academy takes on Borrego Springs. As it stands, the Dragons are in second, while Noel Looney's team is in fifth.
