The Schlarman Hilltoppers struggled with assists on Thursday (the Westville Tigers had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Schlarman was outmatched by the Tigers on the road and fell 60-27. Schlarman has struggled against the Tigers recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Schlarman saw an underclassman step up: Izzy Bogen dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bogen has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Layla Briggs, who scored three points along with eight rebounds.
Leading Westville to victory were Lani Gondzur and Gwen Bennett. Gondzur almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds, while Bennett dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Bennett is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrie Jenkins, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Schlarman's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Westville, their victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-21.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Schlarman will take on the Comets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Westville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
