It was a good run, but the Ashland Blue Jays unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They were outmatched by Meade at home and fell 62-33. Ashland has not had much luck with Meade recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Ashland had strong showings from Lily McPhail, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two blocks, and Biannca Ceniceros, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, Ashland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meade only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Leading Meade to victory were Carlie Martin and Dallas Sherman. Martin scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Sherman almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Martin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Charity Powell, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Ashland's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Meade, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
Ashland will head out on the road to square off against Bucklin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bucklin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Meade, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Minneola at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Meade is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Kansas (they are ranked 77th, while Minneola is ranked 254th).
