The Caney Creek Panthers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by The Woodlands at home and fell 62-7. While losing is never fun, Caney Creek can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 595th, while The Woodlands is ranked 51st).
The Woodlands' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mabrey Mettauer, who threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.3% of his passes. Mettauer is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aden Self, who gained 140 total yards and two touchdowns.
Caney Creek has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for The Woodlands, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Caney Creek will head out on the road to face off against Oak Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oak Ridge is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games. As for The Woodlands, they will be playing at home against Willis at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Willis is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
