Softball Game Preview: River Ridge/Scales Mound Wildcats vs. Lena-Winslow Panthers

River Ridge/Scales Mound hasn't had much luck against Lena-Winslow recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. River Ridge/Scales Mound knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Lena-Winslow likes a good challenge.

River Ridge/Scales Mound made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Orangeville, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats blew past the Broncos 15-6 on Friday. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Elizabeth Rife made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, River Ridge/Scales Mound got a massive performance out of Sarah Winter, who scored five runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those five runs gave Winter a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anika Stadel, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

River Ridge/Scales Mound kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.8.

Meanwhile, Lena-Winslow came up short against Oregon on Saturday, falling 14-1.

Lena-Winslow's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for River Ridge/Scales Mound, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

River Ridge/Scales Mound might still be hurting after the 15-7 loss they got from Lena-Winslow in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
