Valencia was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in Empire. Earlier in the week, the Tigers defeated Kennedy 24-13.
Tustin extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Yorba Linda, 40-7. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
The Mustangs' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brandon Summers threw for 133 yards and Shad Pace had 53 yards receiving. On the ground Angel Ochoa chipped in 89 yards. Nate Klinkenberg helped Yorba Linda's passing attack out by catching two balls for 21 yards.
Yorba Linda's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Mustangs feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Summers has thrown for 719 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Pace has 29 catches for 390 yards. Ochoa leads the league in rushing with 352 yards.
A big matchup in Empire this week will be when Valencia takes on Tustin. As it stands, the Tigers are in fourth, while Myron Miller's team is in first.
Valencia moved up to 298 from 407 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Tigers were able to make the jump by beating the Eagles 24-13.
