Basketball Game Preview: Sand Creek Scorpions vs. The Classical Academy Titans

Two dominant guards in Elijah Brotherns and Ky Walker are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Sand Creek Scorpions will look to defend their home court on Thursday against The Classical Academy Titans at 7:00 p.m. Both are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

The Classical Academy will be up against a hot Sand Creek squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went Sand Creek's way against Sierra on Thursday as Sand Creek made off with a 75-49 win. Given the Scorpions' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Stallions are ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sand Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brotherns, who went 6 for 8 en route to 12 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Brotherns has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Jaylen Brantley was another key player, putting up eight points.

Sand Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for The Classical Academy on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Mitchell out of the water with a 64-26 final score. The Titans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 22 points or more this season.

Sand Creek's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for The Classical Academy, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

Sand Creek didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against The Classical Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 54-49 victory.
