III Northern recap Oct. 23, 2012
Pershing County extended the longest winning streak in III Northern this week by beating Battle Mountain, 31-6. This was the team's seventh consecutive win.
Incline led the league in scoring this week after putting up 45 points on West Wendover. Christian Biscotti threw for 210 yards and two touchdowns and ran for six yards in the win.
Daniel Itza provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Longhorns fell to Pershing County. He completed 19 passes for 248 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 51 yards. Itza's favorite target this week was David DeAndreis, who caught nine passes for 112 yards.
Jacob Flores was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 179 yards on 17 carries as the Mustangs bested the Wolverines. Teammate Jared Jensen added to the ground attack by rushing for 91 yards.
Wegener was the best wideout in III Northern this week as Incline beat West Wendover. Wegener racked up three receptions for 143 yards. Brendon Steinmeyer helped Incline's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Itza of Battle Mountain is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1688. He has also thrown 17 touchdowns. On the ground, Pershing County's Flores has rushed for 1457 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is KAYDN SHARP. The West Wendover star has 39 catches for 624 yards.
Scott Conn's team's Sean Herrera needs only 88 yards against the Mustangs next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Herrera has rushed for 912 yards on 108 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Highlanders take on Pershing County. As it stands, Incline is in third, while the Mustangs are in second.
Pershing County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,833 from 6,410. The advance stemmed from a 31-6 victory over the Longhorns last week.
