The Dixie County Bears waltzed into their game on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They snuck past Chiefland with a 43-38 win. This was payback for Dixie County, who suffered a 37-25 loss the last time these two teams met.
Dixie County's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jakayla Henderson, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Henderson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Brown, who scored 14 points.
Chiefland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Bell, who scored eight points along with five steals. Bell is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Riley Davies was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Dixie County pushed their record up to 9-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Chiefland, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dixie County will square off against Lafayette at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lafayette focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday. As for Chiefland, Chiefland and North Marion will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. North Marion comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
