Jamestown hasn't had much luck against York recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Jamestown will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Jamestown will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Smithfield, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles walked away with a 7-3 win over the Packers on Thursday.
Grace Hughes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Hughes was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Zoe Mayes (Marymount University) was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Jamestown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, York made easy work of Lafayette on Friday and carried off a 16-6 victory. Considering the Falcons have won seven matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Leslee Maldonado was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lilly Prosser, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
York's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Jamestown, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.
York's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Jamestown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for York, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Jamestown keep running through batters, or will the Falcons buck the trend?
Jamestown came out on top in a nail-biter against York in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
