On Wednesday, the South Fremont Cougars faced the Sugar-Salem Diggers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. South Fremont received a tough blow as they fell 47-32 to Sugar-Salem. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points South Fremont has scored all season.
Despite the loss, South Fremont still got an impressive performance from Brianne Bailey, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 43.8% of South Fremont's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
South Fremont struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Leading Sugar-Salem to victory were Ashlyn Harris and Andee Petterson. Harris scored 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Petterson scored 13 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Monika Nead, who scored six points along with ten rebounds.
South Fremont has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-5 record this season. As for Sugar-Salem, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Fremont will take on Teton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Teton is looking to tack on another W to their nine-game streak on the road. As for Sugar-Salem, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Snake River at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th. Snake River will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
