The Foothill Falcons will head out to challenge the Dublin Gaels at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Foothill's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Dublin's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Foothill took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Monte Vista. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Myra Galzie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaycie Burdick, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ellie Novitske, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Dublin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Heritage.
Dublin saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Tolliver, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Foothill pushed their record up to 9-4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Dublin, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.
Dublin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Foothill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .356. It's a different story for Dublin, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Foothill's hitters?
Everything went Foothill's way against Dublin in their previous meeting back in March, as Foothill made off with a 19-5 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
