Robinson hasn't had much luck against Newton recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Maroons will host the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Robinson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Newton will be up against a hot Robinson squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Maroons came out on top in a nail-biter against Charleston on Wednesday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Maroons have posted against the Trojans since April 29, 2016.
Avah Myers tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kate Rehmel, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Newton never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Sullivan on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Redskins with a sharp 15-5 victory. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Lexie Ghast made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Audrie Reich was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabby Flowers, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Newton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Newton now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Robinson, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Robinson hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Newton struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Robinson suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Newton when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Will the Maroons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
