The Grasso Tech Eagles will finish 2023 at home by hosting the East Lyme Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Grasso Tech humbled Bolton with a 76-28 victory. With Grasso Tech ahead 45-15 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Grasso Tech had a senior duo take command as Charis Johnson scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and five assists and Nick Stavesky scored 20 points along with six assists and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Stavesky has scored at least 25% of Grasso Tech's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerry Santiago, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, East Lyme scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 74-33 win over Montville. That looming 74-33 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for East Lyme yet this season.
It was another big night for Oliver Hibbard, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Hannans, who scored 16 points.
Grasso Tech now has a winning record of 2-1. As for East Lyme, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Grasso Tech have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.7 threes per game. However, it's not like East Lyme struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 7.5 threes per game. Given Grasso Tech's sizeable advantage in that area, East Lyme will need to find a way to close that gap.
