4A I-Meck recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to West Charlotte, who took down 192nd ranked West Charlotte, 10-7.
Mallard Creek was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 4A I-Meck. Earlier in the week, the Mavericks defeated Lake Norman 55-7.
Jalen Latter and Larenz Bryant gave Vance a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Latter threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns, while Bryant ran for 183 yards. Latter also contributed to the rushing game with 39 yards on the ground.
Tyler Phillips was the best wideout in the league this week as Mooresville lost to the Cougars. Phillips tallied six receptions for 76 yards. Treavor White helped Mooresville's passing attack out by catching two balls for 31 yards.
Hough's Josh Stilley and Sanders Poff have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Stilley has thrown for 1082 yards this season, while Poff has 17 catches for 435 yards. Bryant from Vance leads the league in rushing with 913 yards.
The top two teams in 4A I-Meck will face off this week when first place Hough takes on second place Mallard Creek. Last week, the Huskies beat Hopewell, while Mallard Creek bested the Wildcats.
The Cougars' Bryant is a mere 87 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
Two highly touted recruits will be in the spotlight when the Mavericks and Vance meet this week. Mallard Creek features well-regarded defensive back Brian Walker while the Cougars has Bryant, a sought after senior.
Hough extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Titans, 28-15. The win marks fifth in a row for the Bobby Collins's team.
