The Anderson Trojans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 64-26 loss at the hands of Austin. Anderson was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-6.
Despite the loss, Anderson saw an underclassman step up: Cayla Mosby scored six points along with 11 rebounds. Mosby has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played.
Anderson struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Austin racked up 20 assists.
Austin was led to victory by Jill Shirk and Kemah Shaw. Shirk went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and 3 assists, while Shaw scored 17 points along with eight assists and six rebounds. Shaw hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Evelyn Young, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Anderson's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-16. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.7 points per game. As for Austin, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-17 record this season.
Anderson will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bowie at 8:00 p.m. Bowie presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Anderson in Texas (Bowie is ranked 286th, while Anderson is ranked 1166th). As for Austin, they will head out on the road to face off against Dripping Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
