Grasso Tech and Norwich RVT are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Eagles will square off against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Grasso Tech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Grasso Tech fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Old Saybrook on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 5-3. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Gabe Grossman spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Daniel Lindy and Yankee De La Cruz-Nieves did some serious damage despite the final result: Lindy went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double, while De La Cruz-Nieves went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was De La Cruz-Nieves' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of PJ Evans, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, Norwich RVT was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of New London.
Norwich RVT saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Collin Schulze, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Grasso Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Norwich RVT, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Grasso Tech has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Norwich RVT struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Grasso Tech was able to grind out a solid win over Norwich RVT in their previous meeting last Thursday, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
