The Amherst Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Whitharral Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Amherst will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1416th, while Whitharral is ranked 563rd).
Last Tuesday, Amherst came up short against Anton and fell 46-37.
Meanwhile, Whitharral can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 63-36 win over Seagraves. The victory was nothing new for Whitharral as they're now sitting on three straight.
Whitharral relied on the efforts of Nathaniel Sansom, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Jack Griffin, who scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Griffin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brent Robinson, who scored 11 points.
Amherst bumped their record down to 5-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. As for Whitharral, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season.
Amherst was taken down by Whitharral 63-22 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Sansom, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds. Now that Amherst knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
