Wayne is 3-0 against Wakefield since December of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Wayne Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Wakefield Trojans at 8:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, Wayne was not quite Ponca's equal in the second half on Saturday. Wayne took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ponca.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Colson Nelsen, who scored 15 points. He scored a full 34.9% of Wayne's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Devin Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Wakefield was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 35-29 to Hartington-Newcastle.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Cael Johnson, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds. He scored a full 37.9% of Wakefield's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Borg, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
The wins kept both teams' perfect 1-1 season records intact.
Everything went Wayne's way against Wakefield in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as Wayne made off with a 61-37 win. Does Wayne have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wakefield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
