Basketball Recap: Mackenna Patterson and Zizi Etolue Secure Win for Urbana

Urbana proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 26) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Frederick Cadets, sneaking past 51-49. This was payback for the Hawks, who suffered a 57-30 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Urbana was led to victory by Zizi Etolue and Mackenna Patterson. Etolue dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards, while Patterson posted nine points along with seven boards and six steals. Patterson is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiersten Smith, who had nine points and six rebounds.

Urbana has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Frederick, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Urbana will take on Linganore at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Urbana is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. As for Frederick, they will square off against Governor Thomas Johnson on Monday.
