Vacaville's David Mewborn recorded the longest rushing play in Monticello Empire League this season in his game against Napa last week. Mewborn scampered for 80 yards on the play and finished with 267 on the day as his team bested the Indians.
Vintage moved up to 406 from 441 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Crushers climbed the ranks as a result of besting Armijo 44-6.
Wood's dynamic duo of Tyler Bailey and Desmond McIver proved tough for Rodriguez to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Bailey threw for 223 yards and 2 touchdowns and McIver had 135 yards receiving. Ryan Nules helped Wood's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 49 yards.
He was 15-23 with 0 interceptions.
Mewborn provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Vacaville defeated Napa.
Mewborn was a force in the backfield as Mike Papadopoulos' team topped Troy Mott's team.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Indians' Kyle Beaver and Austin Aaron have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Beaver has thrown for 1,438 yards this season, while Aaron has 38 catches for 743 yards. Mewborn from the Bulldogs leads the league in rushing with 976 yards.
Mewborn of the Vacaville is just 24 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Mewborn has rushed for 976 yards on 84 carries so far this year.
As it stands, the Wildcats are in first, while Vintage is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Wood takes on Dave Shipp's team. Carlos Meraz's team has allowed 163 points this season, while the Crushers have given up 198. The Wildcats allowed 6 points last week as they defeated Rodriguez.
Wood added to the longest winning streak in Monticello Empire League this week by beating Berwyn Hutcherson's team, 48-6. The victory was the seventh in a row for the team.
