Fleming Island hasn't had much luck against Providence School recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Fleming Island Golden Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Providence School Stallions at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Fleming Island's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
Last Monday, Fleming Island didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Mainland, but they still walked away with a 71-66 victory.
Fleming Island got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Carson Crawford out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Kameron Baskin was another key player, putting up seven points along with eight steals and seven assists.
Fleming Island smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 73-46, which was the final score in Providence School's tilt against Impact Christian Academy on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Stallions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Lions are ranked 36th).
Despite the loss, Providence School saw an underclassman step up: freshman William Stewart dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Stewart a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Gornto, who posted 13 points.
Fleming Island has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Providence School, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Fleming Island has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31 boards per game. However, it's not like Providence School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Fleming Island was taken down by Providence School 63-28 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Will Fleming Island have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
