Even though Washington County scored an imposing 55 points on Wednesday, Newport still came out on top. Newport walked away with a 64-55 win over Washington County.
Tay Kinney and Deshaun Jackson jr were among the main playmakers for Newport as the former scored 19 points and the latter scored 17 points along with seven assists. The matchup was Kinney's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jabari Covington, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Great Crossing faced North Oldham in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Great Crossing skirted past North Oldham 64-61. Despite the victory, that was the fewest points Great Crossing has scored all season.
Junius Burrell and Malachi Moreno were among the main playmakers for Great Crossing as the former scored 16 points along with five steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 rebounds. The contest was Moreno's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Vince Dawson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight assists.
Newport's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Great Crossing, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the pair are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Newport hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 66.2 points per game. However, it's not like Great Crossing struggles in that department as they've been averaging 77 points per game.
