Dawson-Bryant hasn't had much luck against Portsmouth recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hornets will square off against the Trojans at 5:00 p.m.
Dawson-Bryant made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Minford, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Hornets fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday. The Hornets' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it six in a row.
Derek Bloomfield made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Leland McKnight, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth never let their opponents score on Monday. They blew past Clay 14-0. Considering the Trojans have won eight games by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacob Roth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Portsmouth is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Roth was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
In other pitching news, Reid Click looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Back at the plate, Camron Williams was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Nik Copley was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Portsmouth is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Dawson-Bryant, their loss dropped their record down to 4-14.
Dawson-Bryant might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Portsmouth when the teams last played back in April. Can the Hornets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
