Two dominant guards in Martez Ford and Ja'Caiden Cone are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Greenbrier Wolfpack will be playing at home against the Statesboro Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenbrier is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.1 points per game this season.
Last Saturday, Greenbrier didn't have too much trouble with Effingham County as they won 54-38. Given the Wolfpack's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Rebels are ranked 320th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Greenbrier had a senior duo take command as Nate Garstang posted 18 points and Ford had 13 points. Another player making a difference was Jackson Mcdonald, who earned six points.
Meanwhile, Statesboro had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 46-41 W against the Rebels. The 46-point effort marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Greenbrier better keep an eye on Cone. He was instrumental in Statesboro's win, putting up 14 points. What's more, Cone also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Camdyn Wilkerson was another key player, posting 11 points and six rebounds.
Statesboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.
Greenbrier is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Statesboro, they pushed their record up to 21-3 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Greenbrier hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 58.1 points per game. However, it's not like Statesboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 60.6 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Greenbrier lost to Statesboro at home by a decisive 67-53 margin in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Will Greenbrier have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
