Pima is a perfect 10-0 against Fort Thomas since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Roughriders will square off against the Apaches at 4:00 p.m. Pima will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Pima is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Gilbert Classical Academy on Wednesday as they made off with a 27-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Roughriders, who have now won three games by 11 runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Bivianna Vega, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Josie McEuen, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Vega wasn't the only one making solid contact: Pima kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Fort Thomas came up short against Ray on Wednesday, falling 19-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Apaches in their meetings with the Bearcats: they've now lost eight in a row.
Fort Thomas saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Benally, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Benally also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season.
Fort Thomas' loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Pima, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pima hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like Fort Thomas struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Pima's way against Fort Thomas when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Pima made off with a 21-11 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Roughriders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
