The Cairo Syrupmakers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, they made off with a 78-77 victory over Spencer. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cairo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Keshen Spence, who scored 31 points along with six rebounds and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Spence has scored at least a third of Cairo's points. Jykortnee Brown was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Spencer lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being KeyShaun Sampton, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Kerry Griffin, who scored 12 points.
Cairo's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. As for Spencer, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cairo will face off against Hardaway at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hardaway focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday. As for Spencer, they will head out on the road to challenge Kendrick at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Kendrick focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
