While Huskies fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Briarcliff/Hamilton on Saturday, sneaking past 24-21.
Meanwhile, Marlboro Central took care of business in their home opener on Thursday (and then some). They blew past Spackenkill, posting a 39-3 victory at home.
Sal Jr Montaperto was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 135 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Rivieccio, who rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Marlboro Central wouldn't let Spackenkill keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Marlboro Central can thank Sean Robertson and Dylan Sanchez for forcing both of them. Robertson is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in the last eight games he's played dating back to last season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Marlboro Central was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 462 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spackenkill only gained 122.
Highland came up short against Marlboro Central in their previous meeting back in October of 2023, falling 13-0. Can Highland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
