The Coastal Academy Stingrays are taking a road trip to challenge the Escondido Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Coastal Academy is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Escondido Charter just ended the team's 11-game winning streak dating back to last season on Wednesday. They lost 15-9 to the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Stingrays have suffered since March 14, 2024.
Therese Frazer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and 13 unearned) runs on 12 hits.

At the plate, Delylah Ordman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Alvarez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Escondido was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Canyon Crest Academy, falling 8-1.
Escondido saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Audrey Dabelstein, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Abby White also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Coastal Academy fell to 3-1. As for Escondido, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Escondido's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Coastal Academy has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Escondido, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Coastal Academy's sizable advantage in that area, Escondido will need to find a way to close that gap.
Coastal Academy beat Escondido 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Coastal Academy repeat their success, or does Escondido have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
