The West Memphis Blue Devils will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Van Buren Pointers at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Even though West Memphis has not done well against Searcy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. West Memphis was the clear victor by a 42-20 margin over Searcy. The win was just what West Memphis needed coming off of a 56-31 defeat in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Van Buren had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Siloam Springs 50-13 at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 29-7.
Van Buren's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Trenton Cooley, who picked up 237 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Bryce Perkins, who threw for 398 yards and four touchdowns while completing 86.2% of his passes.
West Memphis' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Sylvan Hills and 2-8 Greene County Tech (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35% over those games). As for Van Buren, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
