Baseball Game Preview: Hope Christian Huskies vs. West Mesa Mustangs

Hope Christian is a perfect 4-0 against West Mesa since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Huskies will head out on the road to take on the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Hope Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Hope Christian and Moriarty meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Huskies put the hurt on the Pintos with a sharp 11-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Pintos: they've now won six in a row.

Brandon Wiles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits.

On the hitting side, Porter Chastain was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Dearholt, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Hope Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, West Mesa suffered their biggest defeat since February 19th on Tuesday. They came up short against Cibola, falling 23-3. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

West Mesa's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Hope Christian, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Everything went Hope Christian's way against West Mesa when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Hope Christian made off with a 16-0 victory. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
