Baseball Recap: Myrtle Has No Trouble Against Mantachie

Myrtle hadn't done well against Mantachie recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Everything went the Myrtle Hawks' way against the Mantachie Mustangs as the Myrtle Hawks made off with a 10-0 win. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 12-5 victory the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2021.

Drew Stanton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ray Moody and Wes Stanton did most of the damage at the plate: Moody scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Wes scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Myrtle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mantachie only posted an OBP of .062.

The win made it two in a row for Myrtle and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs over those games. As for Mantachie, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Myrtle is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Water Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mantachie, they will square off against Vardaman at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
