The Westinghouse Warriors entered their tilt with the Orr Spartans with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Westinghouse took down the Spartans 39-22 on Thursday. Given Westinghouse's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Spartans are ranked 353rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westinghouse to victory, but perhaps none more so than LaMonyca Bryant, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. Bryant is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jamilah Jackson, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five steals.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Neshaun Williams, who scored six points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nia Crawford, who scored two points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Orr struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Westinghouse racked up 12 assists.
Westinghouse pushed their record up to 16-3 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Orr, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westinghouse has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Wolverines at 12:30 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Simeon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six last Wednesday. As for Orr, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against the Mustangs at 11:30 a.m. Morgan Park has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 13.
