Elizabeth is 2-8 against Maywood Academy since December of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Elizabeth Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Maywood Academy Nighthawks at 4:00 p.m. Elizabeth is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Last Wednesday, Elizabeth took a serious blow against Marquez, falling 93-29. Elizabeth was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 48-20.
Maywood Academy posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Maywood CES 74-39 at home. The victory was just what Maywood Academy needed coming off of a 79-42 loss in their prior matchup.
Maywood Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Edinson Castaneda, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Rodrigo Miranda, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 assists. Castaneda continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Fernando Payan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Elizabeth's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 2-4. As for Maywood Academy, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.
Elizabeth beat Maywood Academy 61-49 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Does Elizabeth have another victory up their sleeve, or will Maywood Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
