The Gurdon Go-Devils were the 27-8 winner over the Smackover Buckaroos when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Gurdon was the victim of a tough 36-15 defeat at the hands of Smackover on Friday.
Despite the loss, Gurdon saw an underclassman step up: Xavier Laster rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Gurdon has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Smackover, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-4.
Gurdon will be playing in front of their home fans against Junction City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Junction City will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Smackover, they will head out on the road to face off against Fouke at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arkansas (Fouke is ranked 143rd, while Smackover is ranked 138th).
