Even though the Seneca Valley Screamin' Eagles scored an imposing 59 points on Friday, the Wootton Patriots still came out on top. Wootton took their contest against Seneca Valley 68-59. Given Wootton's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Seneca Valley is ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Taj Smith, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Jaiden Aze was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 14 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Seneca Valley still got an impressive performance from Jaysen Moise, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 33.9% of Seneca Valley's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Sowell, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Wootton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Seneca Valley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wootton will take on Sherwood at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Seneca Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge Whitman at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
