After flying high against the Washington Jaguars last Thursday, the Pocomoke Warriors came back down to earth. Pocomoke was beaten by Parkside 77-36 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Pocomoke has suffered since December 8, 2023.
Despite the loss, Pocomoke had strong showings from Maddie Esham, who scored 13 points along with two steals, and Donyae Washington, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds. Washington has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 11 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Audrey Pham, who scored two points along with three steals.
Parkside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zion Oge led the charge by scoring 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Oge has scored all season. Diamond Dixon was another key contributor, scoring 21 points.
Pocomoke's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Parkside, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pocomoke won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Crisfield at 5:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Crisfield is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Parkside won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Mardela at 4:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Mardela will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Parkside is ranked 56th).
