The Baltic Bulldogs made easy work of the Chamberlain Cubs on Monday and carried off an 18-9 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Ashlyn Klein made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Baltic got a massive performance out of Amaris Handsaker, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and four runs. Handsaker continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Finley Kortemeyer, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Baltic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Baltic's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12. As for Chamberlain, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.
Coming up, Baltic will challenge West Central at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Chamberlain, they will face off against Mobridge-Pollock at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
