The Discovery Canyon Thunder will head out to square off against the Widefield Gladiators at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Discovery Canyon is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
On Thursday, Discovery Canyon made easy work of Cheyenne Mountain and carried off a 12-6 win. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Andrew Torres tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nate Singleton was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Pierce Hafferkamp, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Discovery Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Widefield hadn't done well against Mesa Ridge recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Gladiators walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Grizzlies. Surprisingly, this marked the Gladiators' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
The team relied heavily on Haven Johnson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Braeden Mitton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Widefield pushed their record up to 14-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Discovery Canyon, their record is now 16-5.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Discovery Canyon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. However, it's not like Widefield struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Discovery Canyon took their win against Widefield in their previous matchup back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Thunder repeat their success, or do the Gladiators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
