Basketball Recap: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Noah Cannon and Madden Gilliatt

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy was the 70-35 winner over Portsmouth Christian when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints took a 70-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Portsmouth Christian Patriots on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Saints have lost by exactly nine points.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Madden Gilliatt and Noah Cannon. Gilliatt dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards, while Cannon posted 16 points along with eight boards and four steals. Gilliatt's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. KJ Pidgeon was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Even though they lost, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Portsmouth Christian, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will challenge Warhill at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Portsmouth Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Denbigh Baptist Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
