Baseball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Saxony Lutheran

Saxony Lutheran won against Crystal City last Thursday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Saxony Lutheran beat the Leopold Wildcats by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-2. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Crusaders also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

James Hope spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Korby Engert was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Kai McDowell also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Saxony Lutheran and bumps their season record up to 4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Leopold, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Saxony Lutheran will face off against St. Pius X at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Leopold, they will square off against Puxico at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
