04/28/25 vs Arizona Lutheran Academy | 8 |
Sieana Soltero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Christina Martinez was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Rowan Asanovich was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Horizon Honors made easy work of Willcox on Tuesday and carried off a 12-2 victory. Considering the Eagles have won 15 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Heritage Academy, Horizon Honors also got a great game from a two-way player: Audriana Anglada. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Anglada was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicole Topete, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Annie Jimenez, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Horizon Honors always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Willcox only posted an OBP of .391.
Horizon Honors pushed their record up to 21-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage Academy, their record now sits at 22-4.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Heritage Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .533. However, it's not like Horizon Honors struggles in that department as they've averaged .601. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Heritage Academy might still be hurting after the 13-7 loss they got from Horizon Honors in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Heroes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
