The Bennett Tigers entered their tilt with the Englewood Pirates with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Bennett came out on top against Englewood by a score of 54-43 on Thursday. Given Bennett's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while Englewood is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Bennett to victory were Lily Venneberg and Jessica Venneberg. Venneberg scored 16 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds, while Venneberg dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Venneberg has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Raquel Thorpe, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Englewood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jonae Harris, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Jaliyah Mora was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Bennett's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Englewood, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-9.
Bennett will stay at home for another game and welcome Bruce Randolph at 11:30 a.m. on January 20th. As for Englewood, they will head out on the road to take on The Pinnacle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
