The Cottonwood Colts came tearing into Tuesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Murray 50-32. That's another feather in the cap for Cottonwood, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Cottonwood's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carley Caton, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Morris, who scored eight points.
When it comes to explaining why Murray lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mia Auclaire. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with two steals. That was a full 43.8% of Murray's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Lexi Davies was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 15 rebounds.
Cottonwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Murray, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cottonwood will face off against the Buffaloes at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Tooele focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday. As for Murray, they will head out on the road to take on the Stallions at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Stansbury will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
