Cape Fear and Midway are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Cape Fear Colts will be playing in front of their home fans against the Midway Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Cape Fear barely beat Jack Britt the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Cape Fear put the hurt on Jack Britt with a sharp 8-1 win on Tuesday. Considering the Colts have won four contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jack Britt's batters probably weren't too happy with Logan Rayburn, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up a single walk). What's more, Rayburn gave up only zero hits, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Brycen Talley and Landon Underwood did most of the damage at the plate: Talley scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Underwood scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Cape Fear is undefeated when Talley posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jackson Rainey, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Cape Fear was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Midway entered their tilt with South Lenoir on Tuesday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Blue Devils 13-3. The Raiders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Wyatt Herring spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Wyatt Scott was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Wilson Mayo was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Cape Fear is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. Midway pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cape Fear has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Midway struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cape Fear skirted past Midway 2-0 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will Cape Fear repeat their success, or does Midway have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
